Our initial qualities for selecting OGF flock rams are conformation, fleece quality, breed characteristics, prolificacy, temperament, genetic diversity and size. The ultimate ram standard is performance – does he consistently produce high quality offspring? These qualities apply whether a ram is for our flock or your flock. We pride ourselves on consistently offering high quality flock rams and working with you to select the best ram for your flock.
We maintain three distinct New Zealand bloodlines - Riverside, Beechwood and Ravenswood in our white Leicester Longwool flock. To ensure genetic diversity we also have rams from Ostler Hill (Australian) and Parson’s Pride (English) breeding. Our program of line-breeding coupled with genetic diversity enables us to maintain a closed flock, conserve unique bloodlines and offer prospective shepherds starter flocks with a broad genetic base.
All colored Leicester Longwools in the U.S. trace back to semen from two New Zealand rams: NIR 10084C and NIR 10085C. We are working to expand the genetic base of OGF colored Leister Longwools by breeding our colored rams to our best-fleeced white ewes.
